Caring for your spray tan

follow these tips and tricks to get the best out of your tan.

BEFORE YOUR TAN

  • Have a warm shower at least 4 hours before your appointment. A hot shower will cause your pores to open and cause the tan to settle unevenly on your skin
  • Dry skin is the enemy of a great tan. Make sure your skin is well hydrated 3-5 days ahead of your tan. However, DO NOT moisturize the day of your tan. Make sure your skin is free from any skin/body creams before your appointment as this will interfere with the development of the tan.
  • Exfoliated skin is the key to having a beautiful, even tan. I always advise clients to exfoliate 24 hours before an appointment to give your skin time to be at its best for the tanning process.
  • All manicure and pedicure appointments should be done the day before your tanning appointment.
  • Do not wax 24 hours before your appointment. After waxing, pores remain open for some time, which can result in an uneven tan. Also, any leftover wax on your skin will leave a patchy tan.
  • Do not wax 24 hours before your appointment. Shaving creates micro scrapes and cuts from the razor, and your skin needs time to recover and heal.
  • Wait at least 24 hours after a facial to get a tan as your pores will be open and absorb the tan, creating tiny spots that look like – and will likely lead to – blackhead pimples.
  • Deodorants can cause discoloring and a patchy tan, so make sure you have washed off any residue before your appointment.

After YOUR TAN

  • Your tan is still developing so be gentle.
  • Warm shower only (hot will reduce the life of the tan)
  • Only use water: no soaps or cleansers for 24 hours
  • Keep your skin free from any moisturizers for 24 hours after your first rinse
  • Avoid swimming/long hot showers/ baths/ steam rooms and saunas. Any of these activities can cause your tan to fade much quicker than usual and usually in a patchy way.
  • Keeping your skin hydrated is the golden rule to preserving your tan. Use and oil-free moisturizer to get the best results.
  • Step away from the exfoliator! Exfoliate only when you are ready to say goodbye to your tan. For best results, use an exfoliating mit in the shower.
